The Volkswagen Transporter, otherwise known as the Type T platform, is a true legend, not only of motoring, but also of pop culture. Named Type 2 in the factory to distinguish it from Type 1, i.e. Garbus, only with the entry into production of the third generation, it started to be called T1, T2, T3. The first generation, based entirely on the VW Hunchback, is the most recognizable delivery car of the 1960s and 1970s around the world. A symbol of the liberal revolution, the Hippies, the flower children, the T1 was produced until 1967 in Germany, and until 1975 in Brazil. Once commercial vehicles, the VW T1 is now a highly desirable and sought after classic vehicle especially in the Samba versions equipped with 21 or 23 windows, or the Westfalia camper versions.
The Volkswagen T1 Westfalia offered by the Classics Station was sold new in the USA, and has had only three owners, the last from 1988 to 2018. This is the original factory rebuilt version for VW by Westfalia with a very desirable raised roof. Sporadically used, the T1 has only been driven 10,000 miles over the last twenty years. The camper comes with a partial service history, from which we learn, among other things, that the original engine was replaced with a 1.6 liter version from a VW Super Beetle, and that it has recently undergone a complete sealing along with replacement of the clutch, tank and fuel pump. The T1 has had body work done over 10 years ago to get rid of the corrosion to the underside of the body. As a result, 70% of the vehicle still has the original panels, and the lower parts of the vehicle have been body-repaired. Despite a few paint chips, the T1 still looks great and is currently registered with Polish plates. This is a car that can be used as is or can be restored.
